Who created the first Gourd Carousel ™? It was the one and only Cia Silla along with her husband Tio. She first designed a Gourd Carousel ™ in 2009 and to date has over 120 different and unique creations/designs to her collection. This new form of art was begun as an expression to create a unique use of something different. Coming from a family of artists and growing up with and being exposed to many different forms of art, she experimented with the comely gourd until she was happy with her new creation.
Her background in the world of art is a family thing! Three
generations of artists on both her mothers and fathers' sides, all
working in a variety of mediums established a solid background and
love for creativity. Her mother works with paper Mache sculptures, and
her grandmother was involved in both textile art and fabric sculpture.
This same trait has also emerged in Cias aunt who is an accomplished
still life artist while her uncle used his natural talent working with
wood and metal to create one of a kind pieces of art.

Growing up, her mother was not the only artist under the roof. Her
father owned and operated two Western Fine Art and Bronze Sculpture
galleries that inspired Cia. Her oldest brother is an inventor and in
his spare time he creates whimsical whirlygigs. Her youngest brother
uses leather to create unbelievable Practical Art works.
While at college, Cia further pursued her gift as she studied art and
business. Cia concentrated on textures through textiles, the carving
of wood in free standing and relief carving forms. To further her
exposure to wood carving she traveled to the heart of the masters of
wood carving, Austria, where she studied and skied. For a new world
perspective she also studied Mayan sculptures and relief carvings in
Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. After graduating college, she worked
designing and presenting fine jewelry.
As with all professional artists, she has had her art on display in
many places. Two of these locations in America have included the Wild
Goose Gallery and the Wellington Fine Art Gallery. Cia is also a
member of the Pennsylvania Gourd Society.
Cia has blended her interest in a wide scope of art mediums and
influences into her Gourd Art Designs. She has taken the perspectives
learned from working on Woodcarving with Relief work and sculpture,
Paper Mache Sculpture, Free standing sculpture that are larger than
life size using wire and epoxy, and blended them into her Gourd Art.
Other areas of influence are her textile creations of Quilt designing,
Rug Hooking, Rug Braiding and Fiber Weaving.

Gourd art designs are the passion of Cia but they are not her only
interest or influence on your creations. She also has a knack for
other areas of art that include Photography and clay and fabric
figurines, but the call of gourd art design always beckons her. This
is where her true passion lies in the world of art. So much so that
she started up the Gourd Store in the fall of 2011 to showcase her
creations and offer them to the awaiting public.
Cia is known to be working at all hours of the day and night on her
gourd designs. This is a common trait among artist who have to bring
their inspirations to life when the calling occurs.
While the Gourd Carousel ™ does take some inspiration from Cia's German
heritage and the German Christmas Carousel, it is 100% authentic and
each piece is an original work of art made to be enjoyed and last a
